Apple and Google in talks on iPhone AI features

The two companies are in active negotiations to let Apple license Gemini, Google’s set of generative AI models, to power some new features coming to the iPhone software this year. Apple also recently held discussions with OpenAI and has considered using its model, according to the people.

New AI capabilities based on Apple’s homegrown models, meanwhile, would still be woven into the operating system. They’ll be focused on proactively providing users with information and conducting tasks on their behalf in the background, people familiar with the matter said.

Turning game characters into your next chat buddy.

Nvidia is showing off how developers have started using its AI “digital human” tools to voice, animate, and generate dialogue for video game characters. At the Game Developers Conference on Monday, the company released a clip of Covert Protocol, a playable tech demo that showcases how its AI tools can allow NPCs to respond in unique ways to player interactions, generating new responses that fit the live gameplay.

“We’re introducing a new tool in Creator Studio requiring creators to disclose to viewers when realistic content – content a viewer could easily mistake for a real person, place, or event – is made with altered or synthetic media, including generative AI,” YouTube said.

For most videos, a label will appear in the expanded description but for videos on sensitive topics — like health, news, elections, or finance — YouTube will also show a more prominent label on the video itself.
