OPEN AI
OpenAI inks deal to train AI on Reddit data

OpenAI has reached a deal with Reddit to use the social news site’s data for training AI models.

In a blog post on OpenAI’s press relations site, the company said that the Reddit partnership will provide it access to “real-time, structured and unique content” — e.g. posts and replies — from Reddit, allowing its tools and models to “better understand and showcase” that content. Reddit content will be incorporated into ChatGPT, OpenAI’s popular conversational AI, and the companies will work together to bring unspecified new “AI-powered features” to both Reddit users and moderators.

OpenAI will also become a Reddit advertising partner.

“Reddit will be building on OpenAI’s platform of AI models to bring its powerful vision to life,” OpenAI wrote in the post. “Using LLMs, ML, and AI allow Reddit to improve the user experience for everyone.”

GOOGLE
Google is redesigning its search engine

Google results with AI will be available to select people in the U.S. who apply for a waitlist to be part of Search Lab, where they’ll be able to test out how the product is working and give Google feedback, the company announced Wednesday at its annual developer conference, Google I/O.

Search with AI will be labeled as an experiment for users—though it won’t be available for at least a few weeks—and Google said the AI-generated information will be more factual than conversational, unlike other AI tools like ChatGPT, AP reported; however, Google also announced Wednesday that Bard, its chatbot-like experiment, is now widely available for people to try.

Combining AI with Google Search will let users type a question into the search bar and receive one main result that synthesizes the information gathered—but there will still be normal search links provided below the generated answer.

CHATGPT
ChatGPT lets users upload from Google Drive and OneDrive

The ChatGPT update saga continues -- on Thursday, OpenAI announced a new feature to the signature large language model (LLM) chatbot. The ChatGPT will now let users import files directly from external cloud drives including Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive. This update will help users let go of the pressure to download files to your desktop and then upload it to ChatGPT. This allows ChatGPT to understand your Google Sheets, Docs, Slides, and Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint files more quickly.

The company also stated that this capability is only available for the subscribers to ChatGPT Plus, Team and Enterprise users. All paying users including GPT 4o and older models will be able to access this feature.
